Does your child need one-on-one help in reading, spelling and writing?

In one-on-one sessions (55-60 min. each) at least twice a week I will focus on your child’s needs to build success in reading, spelling, and writing. Using the Orton Gillingham approach, all needed components of structured literacy as set out by the IDA (International Dyslexia Association) will be incorporated (even while online).

I hear this a lot after the pandemic and online learning, but learning with me online is so much different. I am one-on-one with your child and I work with you and him/her to get used to the tools we use to interact and the expectations. I am constantly monitoring the need for movement and breaks and we take these as often as needed. I work with your child to build up to the 55 minute session time and the lessons still include all needed components- including being multi-sensory. If you still have questions feel free to reach out. I’d love to set your mind at ease.

“Tutoring” only involves sessions where the tutor helps the child with one specific skill, he/she is struggling with at the moment. (i.e., Bring the tutor a worksheet the child struggled with, and the tutor works through it with the child.) There is no planning involved and no assignment given.

The sessions I provide require planning an individual lesson plan for each session that is multi-sensory and prescriptive to your child and his/her needs. The sessions involve remediation which is improving deficient skills in a specific subject.

To begin, I will need to do an Orton Gillingham assessment with your child to determine where to start and to have a base line for future assessments. The first assessment takes about 2 sessions.

After the assessments, sessions will be spent acquiring new skills and reviewing previously learned skills with the prescriptive lesson plan I mentioned earlier. Sessions are a minimum of 2x’s a week to ensure needed repetition. Individualized work will be sent home after each via email for continued practice.

For every session, a prescriptive and individual lesson plan will be created based on where your child is reading and incorporate needed basic accommodations based on his/her specific needs. Including (but not limited to):

  • Handwriting struggles
  • Fine and large motor issues
  • Sensory issues
  • Executive functioning issues
  • ADHD/ADD struggles

“Our son has been seeing Susan for over a year now and he’s made such amazing progress with his reading. He also has ADHD and hearing loss that she’s been able to work through as well to incorporate his needs into his learning. It’s so wonderful to see how much progress he’s made.”
